Pride month is coming up once again and yet so many queer youth are still made to feel ashamed, confused and lonely. The concept of pride may even begin to feel like a burden - an expectation to champion an identity you're not sure you fit into yet. But must things always be this way?
We invite you to imagine what happens when people freely create and change their identities instead of feeling restricted by society's expectations. Where people can love whoever they want to whenever and wherever they want to, and everybody has the complete liberty to love.
We’re looking for work that explores what it means to live as a queer person in the city today. Under our prompt The Liberty to Love, we want to hear your reflections on identity, love, belonging, and how queer youth navigate shame, pride, confusion, and freedom.
Through both personal reflection and critical perspective, we welcome pieces that question, challenge, or reimagine how society shapes identity and love. Imagine a world where people have the liberty to love whoever they want, whenever and wherever they choose.
