BLANK
IS
YOURS
This magazine aims to provide an accessible space for young people to create, connect, and reclaim our narratives. A platform to express ourselves through any medium, addressing issues that shape and impact us all individually.
Here, we rewrite, reclaim, and redefine our stories on our own terms.
Above all. This Is Yours.
Zine 01: ThisCityIsYours
CALLING ALL WRITERS, ARTISTS, AND CREATIVES: We’re looking for work that speaks to what it feels like to live, grow, and navigate this city right now. Whether that’s housing and affordability, education, mental health, identity, community, activism, or the ways systems shape our everyday lives.
We want to see your work, both personal reflections and critical perspectives that question, challenge, or reimagine the city we live in.
submission prompt 1

"That's Just How It Is"
Sometimes the most powerful forces shaping our lives are the ones we accept without question. “That’s just how it is” becomes a justification for inequality, silence, and systems that persist simply because they’ve always existed. This prompt invites you to challenge that mindset. What have we normalized that should be questioned? What truths go unspoken because they’re too deeply ingrained? Examine the cost of complacency, the weight of tradition, and the moment when we begin to see that things don’t have to stay the way they are. Through any medium, explore the tension between acceptance and resistance.
submission prompt 2

"The Liberty To Love"
There's a quiet defiance in holding the hand of someone the world tells you not to. This prompt invites you to explore the lived experiences of queer youth today. In a world where identity is scrutinized, and the simplest gestures of affection can carry the weight of risk, secrecy, or resistance, we invite you to honor these acts of love and courage. Through your chosen medium, show the complexity of queer existence and confront how the fundamental right to affection and love must often coexist with social resistance.

"Two Sides of The Same City"
One city can hold many different realities within. This prompt invites creators to explore the dualities and disparities that shape our urban experience, the spaces where tradition meets change, wealth contrasts with poverty, and safety exists alongside vulnerability. Through any medium, we encourage you to highlight overlooked perspectives, challenge dominant narratives, and reveal the complexity of city life by showing how seemingly opposing realities coexist.
submission prompt 4

"Too Little, Too Late"
Far too often do we only pay attention after the damage has already been done. This prompt invites you to capture the moment when realization finally arrives, but reversal may no longer be possible. From climate change to personal regrets, what is something we’ve neglected for far too long? Through any medium, explore what it truly means to act too late and reflect on how these actions, or lack thereof, shape our future.
submission prompt 5

"Behind Closed Doors"
Who are you when no one else is watching? What unfolds in the moments behind closed doors that we never share? This prompt invites you to explore the hidden side of everyday life. How does the gap between public appearance and private reality shape who you are? Through any medium, tell us, show us, and reveal what goes on behind closed doors.

Our Story:
In late 2024, two students were barred from writing about the overturning of Roe v. Wade in their school publication after it was deemed too sensitive a topic. Recognizing the gap in opportunities for students to meaningfully engage with authentic, real-world issues in school publications, BlankIsYours was created as a platform where youth can openly explore complex ideas, challenge norms, and express their voices freely without the constraints.
BlankIsYours is a student-led multimedia magazine aiming to be an open space for young people to explore the ideas that shape their world. We want to highlight youth perspectives, and create space for work that reflects, questions, and pushes against the boundaries of expectation.
Our goal is to amplify student voices, encourage honest expression, and create a space where young people can engage with the world freely and fully.
